Wang Kaifang, a crossover artist, was invited by Volkswagen to create a group of works called “Humanism” with the theme of “Environmental Protection”. A two-week exhibition was held in the Orange Hall of Sanlitun Village, Beijing.
Using plastic, cardboard, feathers, broken cloth and other materials, through the simplest Chinese character “person” to express the concept, in the use of the pictogram, connotation and beauty of the character to express the traditional Chinese culture, while conveying the deeper meaning of “environmental protection”.
The 15 pieces of group sculptures reflect the consumption and waste of resources by human beings in all aspects of clothing, food and shelter, and alert us to the unconscious and contradictory environmental problem that still exist. For example, the fashion that constantly stimulates consumption, such as more and more convenient logistics, such as pets that we love but imprisoned, such as increasing per capita living space, etc., are all desires that exceed our necessary. Wang Kaifang said: “Our so-called environmental protection is sometimes very hypocritical and very fragile and even shameful! Environmental protection can only be found from the ‘heart’, only the true love, rather than the Humanism, can find an effective way to protect the environment.”
